Heimablídni – Faroese Home Dining & Local Experience

Experience true Faroese culture through Heimablídni, a tradition that translates to home hospitality. This intimate dining experience invites you into a Faroese family home, where food, stories, and tradition come together around the dinner table.

You’ll share a home-cooked Faroese meal prepared with fresh ingredients from nature — just as locals have done for generations.

A Traditional Faroese Dinner – Home Dining

The meal you’ll enjoy is a traditional Faroese fish dinner, served in a warm and relaxed home setting. This is a dish that has been prepared and shared for decades, using simple ingredients that reflect life in the Faroe Islands.

Menu

  • Pan-fried fish

  • Cooked potatoes

  • Garlic oil

  • Fresh salad

  • Tea and coffee, followed by cake or fruit

The focus is on quality, freshness, and tradition — not fine dining, but honest Faroese home cooking.

Meet Your Hosts

Your hosts are Selma and Tórður, a Faroese couple born and raised in the Faroe Islands. They live on Vágar, just five minutes from the country’s only airport.

Selma works as a preschool teacher, while Tórður is a captain and fisherman. Together, they have raised four children, all growing up with the same close connection to nature that defines Faroese life.

Fishing has always been a central part of their family routine. In their spare time, they still visit their favorite fishing spots to catch the fish that later becomes food on the family table. Selma has been preparing this traditional fish meal almost every week for more than 30 years, and she is proud to share it with visitors from around the world.

This experience offers a rare opportunity to meet Faroese locals, learn about everyday life on the islands, and enjoy a meal rooted in tradition and sustainability.

A Small-Group, Intimate Experience

To preserve the personal atmosphere, Heimablídni is offered only to groups, with a minimum of 4 and a maximum of 12 guests. This ensures time for conversation, questions, and a genuine connection between guests and hosts.

The experience lasts approximately 2 hours, giving you time to enjoy the meal, talk with your hosts, and relax in a Faroese home environment.
