Experience the dramatic beauty of the Dunnesdrangar sea stacks on this guided 2.5-hour hike on Vágar Island. Far away from the crowds, this peaceful trail leads you through untouched Faroese nature to one of the island’s most impressive rock formations.
Dunnesdrangar rises boldly from the Atlantic Ocean — a free-standing sea stack shaped by centuries of wind and waves. The setting is quiet, raw, and deeply inspiring.
The adventure begins in the village of Sørvágur on Vágar Island. Your local guide will greet you outside the kindergarten “Alvalon,” where free parking is available nearby. The exact meeting point will be provided in your booking confirmation.
From here, you leave the village behind and step into open countryside. As the trail begins, the sounds of everyday life fade away and the landscape opens around you.
The hike itself is easy and suitable for most fitness levels. The path follows grassy terrain with gentle elevation, making it accessible while still rewarding.
As you walk through rolling green hills, fresh sea air surrounds you. The Atlantic Ocean stretches endlessly beside you, and seabirds glide effortlessly on the wind. Each step brings you closer to the dramatic coastal cliffs.
After approximately one hour of hiking, the landscape reveals its highlight.
Suddenly, the towering Dunnesdrangar rock pillars appear before you, rising powerfully from the ocean below. The contrast between the vertical sea stacks and the endless horizon creates a view that feels almost surreal.
You’ll sit at a safe distance from the cliff’s edge and simply take in the surroundings. Waves crash below, birds circle above, and the sky meets the sea in a seamless line. It is a perfect place to slow down, breathe deeply, and reconnect with nature.
Because this hike is less known than other Faroese attractions, you can often enjoy the viewpoint in peace, without large groups of travelers.
This tour is limited to a maximum of 15 participants, ensuring a personal and relaxed atmosphere. Your experienced local guide shares insights about the landscape, geology, and birdlife along the way, enriching your understanding of the area.
It is recommended to bring:
