Wonders of Vágar Island | Private Tour

Experience the highlights of Vágar Island on your own terms with a private guide dedicated exclusively to your group. This private tour follows one of the most scenic routes in the Faroe Islands while offering flexibility, comfort, and a more personal experience than a traditional group tour.

Throughout the day, you’ll explore dramatic waterfalls, breathtaking viewpoints, fascinating local history, and some of the most iconic landscapes in the Faroe Islands. With a private guide, you can enjoy each location at your own pace, spend extra time taking photos, and ask as many questions as you like along the way.

A Scenic Journey Across the Mountains

Your private experience begins with pickup at 09:00 from your accommodation in Tórshavn or the surrounding area.

Rather than following a strict group schedule, the day is tailored to your pace and interests. We begin by driving along the historic Oyggjarvegur mountain road toward Vágar Island.

Weather permitting, we’ll stop at Norðadalsskarð, where spectacular views open across the fjord and surrounding mountains. This is an excellent opportunity for photographs before continuing through the Faroe Islands’ first subsea tunnel.

Discover Gásadalur and Múlafossur Waterfall

Our first major stop is the charming village of Gásadalur, home to the famous Múlafossur Waterfall.

Here, the waterfall plunges directly into the Atlantic Ocean below, creating one of the most iconic views in the Faroe Islands. Because this is a private tour, you’ll have time to fully enjoy the scenery without feeling rushed.

Learn more about this remarkable location in our guide to
Múlafossur Waterfall.

Your guide will also share stories about Gásadalur’s history and how residents once crossed the mountains on foot before a road tunnel connected the village to the rest of the island.

The Lake Above the Ocean

Next, we visit one of the Faroe Islands’ most famous attractions.

The hike follows the shoreline of Leitisvatn, the largest lake in the Faroe Islands, toward the spectacular viewpoint at Trælanípan.

From here, you’ll witness the famous optical illusion that has made this location world-renowned. The lake appears to float high above the Atlantic Ocean, creating one of the most photographed views in the Faroe Islands.

If you’d like to learn more about the area before your visit, you can explore our guide to
Trælanípan and the Lake Above the Ocean.

Because this is a private experience, your guide can adapt the pace of the walk to your group, allowing extra time for photography and sightseeing.

Bøsdalafossur and Geituskoradrangur

The trail continues toward Bøsdalafossur, where the waters of Leitisvatn flow dramatically into the North Atlantic Ocean.

Nearby stands Geituskoradrangur, a striking sea stack rising from the ocean below the cliffs. Combined with the surrounding coastline and endless sea views, this section of the hike offers some of the most spectacular scenery on Vágar.

On clear days, you can even see several of the southern Faroe Islands stretching across the horizon.

A Private Experience Designed Around You

Unlike a shared tour, this experience focuses entirely on your group.

Whether you are passionate about photography, interested in local history, or simply want to experience the landscapes at a relaxed pace, your guide will help make the day memorable and enjoyable.

This private format is especially popular with couples, families, cruise visitors, and travelers celebrating special occasions.
