Private Kallur Lighthouse Tour – Discover Kalsoy

Experience one of the most iconic landscapes in the Faroe Islands on a Private Kallur Lighthouse Tour to the remote island of Kalsoy.

With your own driver-guide for the day, you’ll travel from Tórshavn through the Northern Islands before crossing by ferry to Kalsoy. From there, explore the island’s dramatic landscapes, hike from Trøllanes to Kallur Lighthouse, and visit the legendary Seal Woman in Mikladalur.

Unlike the scheduled small-group departure, this private experience gives you and your group your own guide and more space to enjoy Kalsoy away from the crowds.

From Tórshavn to the Northern Islands

Your private adventure begins with pickup from your accommodation at approximately 08:45.

Meeting Point

Pickup from your accommodation. Please provide your pickup location when booking.

Please note that the exact pickup time may change depending on boat and ferry availability.

From Tórshavn, you’ll travel north through the impressive Eysturoy subsea tunnel, home to the world’s first underwater roundabout.

The journey then continues along fjords and through the Northern Islands towards Klaksvík, the second-largest town in the Faroe Islands.

Surrounded by steep mountains and calm fjords, Klaksvík is the gateway to Kalsoy.

Ferry from Klaksvík to Kalsoy

From Klaksvík, you’ll board the ferry for the approximately 20-minute crossing to Kalsoy.

The ferry journey offers impressive views of the surrounding Northern Islands rising steeply from the North Atlantic.

Once you arrive on Kalsoy, your private journey continues through the island’s narrow tunnels and remote villages towards Trøllanes, the northernmost village on Kalsoy.

Private Hike to Kallur Lighthouse

From Trøllanes, you’ll begin the hike towards the famous Kallur Lighthouse.

The route crosses open fields dotted with sheep and birdlife before reaching the dramatic northern end of Kalsoy.

Although the hike is not technically difficult, some basic hiking experience is recommended. Conditions can also become more challenging when the grass is wet or the weather is windy.

Eventually, the small red-and-white lighthouse appears against one of the most recognizable landscapes in the Faroe Islands.

With steep green mountains, enormous sea cliffs, and the open Atlantic surrounding you, Kallur offers an extraordinary sense of isolation.

Lunch at Kallur

Once you reach Kallur Lighthouse, there will be time to slow down and enjoy the surroundings.

Lunch is included in your private tour, giving you the opportunity to enjoy a meal while taking in the spectacular landscape.

On a clear day, you can look towards Risin og Kellingin – the Giant and the Witch, two famous sea stacks connected to one of the best-known legends in Faroese folklore.

Looking in the opposite direction, you’ll see the enormous cliffs around Cape Enniberg, the northernmost point of the Faroe Islands.

After enjoying Kallur, you’ll begin the return hike towards Trøllanes.

Don’t Want to Hike?

Not everyone in your private group has to complete the Kallur hike.

Guests who are unable or do not wish to hike can stay with the vehicle and enjoy a scenic exploration of Kalsoy with the driver, or spend time discovering the small village of Trøllanes.

This makes the private tour particularly useful for groups where guests have different interests or physical abilities.

Kalsoy – The James Bond Island

Kalsoy gained worldwide attention after appearing as a filming location in the James Bond movie No Time to Die.

The island’s dramatic mountains and remote Atlantic coastline provided the setting for scenes in the film, earning Kalsoy the nickname “James Bond Island.”

A locally created James Bond gravestone can now also be found near the Kallur area.

However, Kalsoy’s appeal goes far beyond its cinematic connection. Its isolated villages, legends, mountains, tunnels, and spectacular coastline have made it one of the most fascinating islands to visit in the Faroe Islands.

Mikladalur and the Seal Woman

After returning from the Kallur area, the journey continues to Mikladalur, meaning “Great Valley.”

Here you’ll visit Kópakonan – the Seal Woman, one of the most famous statues and legends in the Faroe Islands.

Standing beside the North Atlantic, the bronze statue represents the mythical seal woman whose tragic story has been passed down through generations.

Your guide will tell you the legend and explain its connection to Mikladalur and Kalsoy.

Depending on timing, there may also be an opportunity to visit the local café before continuing back towards the ferry.

Return to Tórshavn

After exploring Kalsoy, you’ll board the ferry back to Klaksvík.

The return crossing provides another opportunity to enjoy the surrounding mountains and fjords before continuing south towards Tórshavn.

The entire private experience lasts approximately 8–9 hours.

If the Kallur Lighthouse hike has to be cancelled because of weather or other unexpected circumstances, the tour can still continue with the remaining experiences on Kalsoy. The operator states that the hiking portion will be refunded if the Kallur hike itself is cancelled.
