Experience one of the most dramatic coastlines in the Faroe Islands on this Private Vestmanna Sea Cliffs Tour from Tórshavn.
Your private driver-guide will take you to Vestmanna, where you’ll board a boat and sail beneath enormous sea cliffs shaped by the North Atlantic. Along the way, you’ll pass basalt formations, narrow passages, sea caves, and important seabird habitats.
However, the experience doesn’t end when you return to land.
After Vestmanna, your private tour continues to the coastal village of Leynar and historic Kvívík, combining spectacular nature with Viking history and everyday Faroese village life.
Your private experience begins with pickup from your accommodation at approximately 09:00.

Because this is a private tour, alternative starting times may be possible depending on availability and the boat departure schedule.
From Tórshavn, you’ll travel with your private local guide towards the village of Vestmanna on the west coast of Streymoy.
The journey introduces you to the mountain and fjord landscapes of Streymoy before reaching the harbour and preparing for the boat trip.
From Vestmanna harbour, you’ll board a boat for an approximately two-hour journey along the famous Vestmanna Sea Cliffs.
Known locally as Vestmannabjørgini, these enormous cliffs rise directly from the North Atlantic and form one of the most impressive coastal landscapes in the Faroe Islands.
The boat takes you as close to the cliffs as weather and sea conditions allow.
Along the way, you’ll sail beneath towering rock walls, through narrow straits, past basalt columns, and into sea caves carved by the Atlantic over millions of years.
The experience gives you a completely different perspective on the Faroese landscape than is possible from land.
The Vestmanna Sea Cliffs are also known for their seabird colonies.
During the bird season, you may encounter species such as puffins and guillemots nesting and flying around the cliffs.
Sheep graze on seemingly inaccessible green slopes above the ocean, while seals may occasionally appear in the surrounding water.
Wildlife sightings can never be guaranteed. Nevertheless, the combination of birdlife and dramatic geology makes the journey particularly memorable during the summer months.
The cliffs have shaped life around Vestmanna for generations.
During your private tour, your guide will introduce you to the geology, wildlife, history, and stories associated with this part of Streymoy.
You’ll hear about sailors seeking shelter during Atlantic storms, life in the communities surrounding the cliffs, and periods when pirates threatened remote Faroese settlements.
Together, these stories add a human dimension to the enormous landscape surrounding you.
After returning from the boat trip, the private journey continues to Leynar.
The colourful village sits on the hillside above one of the relatively few white sandy beaches in the Faroe Islands.
From the area, you’ll have views towards islands and landscapes including Koltur, northern Vágar, and neighbouring Kvívík.
On warm summer days, the beach is popular with locals. Interestingly, Leynar can sometimes enjoy sunshine while fog remains over Tórshavn on the opposite side of the mountains.
After rainfall, salmon may occasionally be seen making their way upstream in the river beside the beach.
The final major destination is Kvívík, one of the oldest settlements in the Faroe Islands.
Here, you can see the remains of Viking longhouses dating back more than 1,000 years.
The location provided early settlers with many of the things they needed: access to fresh water, fertile land, sheltered surroundings, and the open sea.
Today, Kvívík remains a living Faroese village surrounded by beautiful coastal scenery.
The combination of archaeological remains and modern village life provides a fascinating glimpse into how settlement in the Faroe Islands has developed over the centuries.
Lunch and beverages are included in the experience.
EXP FAE aims to arrange lunch at a restaurant, café, or through a local Faroese dining experience where possible.
The exact lunch arrangement can vary depending on availability, the boat schedule, and the itinerary on the day.
The guided day tour itself is private for you and your group.
However, the standard Vestmanna Sea Cliffs boat trip is not a private charter. You will normally join other passengers aboard the boat for the approximately two-hour sailing.
Your private guide remains with you throughout the day.
If you are interested in having an entire boat exclusively for your group, a private boat charter may be possible by special arrangement and at an additional cost.
Even on a relatively warm day, conditions on the water can feel considerably colder than on land. Therefore, warm layers and waterproof outerwear are strongly recommended.
Alternative pickup times may be possible upon request, subject to the boat schedule.
Private tour pricing is based on the number of guests in your booking.
The private tour accommodates a maximum of 7 guests per booking.
Boat tickets and necessary fees are included.
The Private Vestmanna Sea Cliffs Tour is available subject to boat departures, availability, weather, and sea conditions.
The standard pickup time is approximately 09:00, although alternative starting times may be possible for private bookings.
Because the experience includes a boat trip, the exact itinerary and timing may need to be adjusted around the sailing schedule.
Although this is a private guided tour, the standard Vestmanna Sea Cliffs boat excursion is shared with other passengers.
A fully private boat charter may be available separately upon request and at an additional cost.
Wildlife sightings, including puffins and seals, cannot be guaranteed. Bird activity also varies considerably depending on the time of year.
Weather and sea conditions determine how close the boat can travel to the cliffs and whether individual caves or narrow passages can be entered.
Therefore, the exact boat route may vary from one departure to another.
Other languages may be available upon request. An additional fee may apply depending on the requested language and guide availability.
Please ensure you have active travel insurance during your stay in the Faroe Islands. Travel insurance is responsible for covering expenses caused by delayed arrivals, cancellations, or travel disruptions.
